The Financial Terrain Has Changed
Volatility is the new normal. Navigating it requires more than just hope—it requires a guide.
The path to financial independence used to be a gentle slope. Today, it is a rugged climb filled with market volatility, inflation risks, and changing tax laws. Attempting to navigate this terrain without a clear strategy is a risk you don’t need to take.
At Mountain Goat Wealth Management, we don’t just watch the markets; we navigate them. Using the same risk-management frameworks as major institutions, we build portfolios designed to capture growth while protecting your ‘herd’ from the cliffs of volatility.
The Mountain Goat Approach to
Wealth Management
Your financial journey is a climb, and every altitude requires a different strategy. We act as your expert guides, adjusting your equipment and route as the terrain changes. By aligning your investments with your specific position on the mountain, we help you navigate risk and reach your peak with confidence.
Customized Adventure
The route isn't the same for everyone. We design investment strategies tailored specifically to your risk tolerance, time horizon, and tax situation.
Candid Communication
We believe in complete transparency regarding fees and performance. You will always understand exactly what you own, why you own it, and what you pay for our guidance.
Risk Mitigation Strategies
We don't just chase returns; we manage volatility. We use diversification and asset allocation to smooth out the ride, ensuring market downturns don't derail your long-term ascent.
Advanced Portfolio Tools
We utilize sophisticated tools to monitor your portfolio, employing automated rebalancing and tax-loss harvesting to maximize your after-tax returns.
Simplicity Across Accounts
We bring order to a chaotic financial picture. We offer consolidation of your scattered accounts into one cohesive ecosystem, making it easy to see your total net worth at a glance.
Experienced Leadership
We have guided clients through bull markets, recessions, and bubbles. We provide the emotional discipline to keep you on the path when the market terrain gets rocky.
Strategies for Every Stage of the Climb
Wealth Management
Early Career
The Basecamp Builder
For those just beginning their ascent. You have the greatest asset of all—time—but need a solid plan to harness it. We build growth-focused portfolios to maximize the power of compounding early in your climb.
Mid Career
The Alpine Accumulator
For those in the prime of their career. You have high income and complex equity compensation, but little time to manage it. We build tax-efficient strategies to convert your income into lasting wealth.
Near Retirement
The Summit Transitioner
For those approaching the summit. The transition from saving a nest egg to spending it is the most dangerous part of the climb. We construct durable income plans to ensure you retire with confidence, not questions.
Retired
The Legacy Steward
For those protecting the herd. You have built significant wealth; now the goal is preservation. We design comprehensive estate, tax, and investment strategies to secure your legacy for generations to come.

Frequently Asked Questions
Discovery Meeting
How long is it?
The Short Answer: Short enough to fit into a lunch break.
The Details: We respect your time. The discovery call is a focused 30-minute conversation. We keep it concise because the goal isn’t to solve every financial problem in one sitting, but simply to determine if we are the right partners for your journey.
How much does it cost?
The Short Answer: It is completely complimentary.
The Details: There is no cost and no obligation for a discovery call. We believe you shouldn’t have to pay an admission fee just to find out if you like the guide. This is an investment of our time to see if we can add value to your life.
Is it virtual or in-person?
The Short Answer: We meet you where you are—usually virtually.
The Details:
For maximum efficiency and flexibility, we prefer to conduct discovery calls virtually (via Google Meet). This allows us to connect with clients regardless of their location. However, if you are local and prefer a handshake, we can arrange an in-person meeting based on availability and proximity.
What meeting times are available?
The Short Answer: We work around your expedition schedule.
The Details: We know that successful professionals and retirees are busy. While you can view real-time availability on our Contact page, we are generally available between 8:00 AM and 8:00 PM Mountain Time. We also offer weekend availability when needed. We seek to meet at your convenience, not just ours.
Do I need to bring anything?
The Short Answer: Just your questions and your vision.
The Details: No need to gather tax returns or account statements yet. The discovery call is a high-level conversation about your goals and current situation. If we decide we are a good fit, we will move to the “Information Gathering” meeting (Step 2), at which point we will ask for specific financial data.
Who will I meet with?
The Short Answer: A qualified guide, not a salesperson.
The Details: You will meet directly with one of our Mountain Goat advisors. All our advisors are fully licensed, experienced, and equipped to answer complex financial questions. You can learn more about our specific team members on the About page.
What are the possible outcomes?
The Short Answer: We will leave with a clear decision on the route forward.
The Details: There are typically three outcomes:
The Green Light: We are a great fit! We schedule a follow-up “Information Gathering” meeting to dig into the numbers.
The “Not Yet”: We see potential for a partnership, but the timing isn’t right. We agree to stay in touch and catch up down the road.
The Parting of Ways: We aren’t the right fit for your specific needs. We mutually part ways with no hard feelings and no pressure.
Will I need to make commitments?
The Short Answer: Only the decision on whether to have a second conversation.
The Details: Absolutely not. You will not be asked to sign a contract, transfer assets, or pay a fee during a discovery call. The only decision to be made is whether it makes sense to schedule a second meeting to dive deeper.
General
Why do I need a financial advisor?
The Short Answer: Because the higher you climb, the more consequential every step becomes.
The Details: The greatest threat to your wealth isn’t the market—it’s human behavior. When the weather turns (market volatility), instinct tells you to run (sell low). A professional advisor acts as your emotional anchor, keeping you disciplined and on the route when emotions run high. We also navigate the complex terrain of taxes, estate laws, and withdrawal strategies that, if missed, can cost you significantly more than an advisory fee.
What will you do for me?
The Short Answer: We act as the lead guide for your entire financial expedition.
The Details: Most advisors simply sell you hiking boots and wish you luck. We climb with you. Our role is threefold:
Wealth Management: We build and manage sophisticated investment portfolios designed to capture growth while managing volatility.
Retirement Planning: We use advanced forecasting software to stress-test your financial future, ensuring you have a clear roadmap for the summit and the descent.
Risk Management: We identify gaps in your safety gear (insurance) to protect your herd from the unexpected. Ultimately, we carry the heavy pack of financial complexity so you are free to enjoy the adventure.
Why should I choose you?
The Short Answer: Because “good enough” isn’t enough when the terrain gets steep.
The Details: Many firms rely on static models or “rules of thumb.” We bring Wall Street sophistication to your personal financial ascent. We utilize professional tools—like Monte Carlo simulations and dynamic stress-testing—to engineer plans that are data-driven, not hope-driven. Furthermore, we view life as an adventure. If you want a partner who focuses on helping you live your wealth rather than just hoard it, we are the right team for the climb.
How do you get paid?
The Short Answer: We believe in “Candid Communication,” which means total transparency on fees.
The Details:
For Wealth Management: We operate as fiduciaries. We charge a straightforward 1.25% advisory fee on the assets that we manage for you. We do better when you do better.
For Insurance Products: If we implement protection strategies (like Life Insurance, Long-Term Care, or Annuities) through our brokerage partners, we are paid a commission by the insurance carrier. This does not come out of your pocket directly.
For Retirement Planning: Our comprehensive Retirement Planning is typically included for our Wealth Management clients at no extra cost.
How do you keep my assets safe?
The Short Answer: We provide the compass, but we don’t hold the gold.
The Details: Mountain Goat Wealth Management never takes physical custody of your assets. Your accounts are held with a leading, independent third-party custodian, Charles Schwab. This provides a critical system of checks and balances. You grant us “limited power of attorney” to trade and manage the account on your behalf, but the assets remain in your name, protected by the custodian’s security measures and SIPC insurance. Only you have access to transfer assets in and out of your account.
How will I track my account progress?
The Short Answer: You have 24/7 visibility. We believe you should always know exactly where you stand.
The Details: We believe in total transparency. You will have your own secure login to the custodian (Charles Schwab), giving you real-time access to your balances, positions, and activity whenever you want it. In addition to the official quarterly statements you receive from the custodian, we meet with you at least annually (or more often as needed) to review your performance, discuss life changes, and adjust the route map for the year ahead.
How do I know if I am a good fit?
The Short Answer: We look for climbers, not just campers.
The Details: Our clients come from all stages of the climb—from “Basecamp Builders” to “Legacy Stewards”. You are a good fit if:
You are serious about your financial future and value professional advice.
You are looking for a long-term partnership, not a “get rich quick” scheme.
You align with our philosophy that wealth is a tool to fund a life of adventure and purpose. If that sounds like you, we invite you to schedule a discovery call to check our bearings together.
Do you have investment minimums?
The Short Answer: We look for trajectory, not just current altitude.
The Details: We do not have a strict asset minimum because we know that every summit push starts at basecamp. While many of our clients have already accumulated significant wealth, we are passionate about working with “Basecamp Builders”—high-income professionals who are early in their journey but committed to saving. If you have strong income potential and the discipline to follow a plan, we can help you build the rest.
